Plea for Peace 2004

Mike Park and Saul Williams, Plea for Peace 2004
"Don't sit next to me
just because I'm Asian."

- Mike Park

"she had eyes
like two turntables
mix(h)er
in between
my dreams and reality
blend in ancient themes"

- Saul Williams

Just got back from Plea for Peace. Mike's catchy tunes and Saul's flowing poetry are still ringin' in my ears... I never thought an Asian guy on acoustic guitar, followed by an impassioned floetry can be so cool.

That looked like a music even I would attend! But somehow I don't think it will ever come to Calgary - nothing ever does (at least Don Beck made his way here - that rocked).

Check out this interveiew with Saul from a fave mag of mine, Satya - http://www.satyamag.com/may03/williams.html

He quotes Harry Trubman at the end:

“I would have been able to free a thousand more slaves if I could only have convinced them that they were slaves.”

All too true...
