My Electric (Wet) Dream
As I've said in my previous blog post, I'm rooting for Elon Musk to succeed in the transportation industry. Hybrids are cool but the Tesla Roadster is friggin' hot! It's a lot greener too. However, electric cars don't solve the root of the energy problem because electricity is still generated mostly from power plants powered by fossil fuels. But it's still a BIG step in the right direction.
There are organizations, like AERO (Advanced Energy Research Organization), that call for a "peaceful Manhattan-style research program to fully develop out-of-the-box new energy sciences to create solutions ready for the market within 18-24 months." To me, this approach is the most logical and practical step toward solving our global energy crisis. Remember how the Atom bomb was built? Why can't the U.S. and other First World countries work together to invent new energy sources instead of cutting emissions here and there? Economics? Greedy business? Politics? All of the above? Whatever.
That said, the eccentric and out-of-this-world nature of AERO's claims (hint: something to do with UFOs and extra-terrestrials) is suspicious. Where are these out of this world technology? I wonder how many uber-rich entrepreneurs are investing in AERO. I wonder if eccentric entrepreneurs like Elon Musk believe their claims.
In the meantime, I'll take whatever BIG baby steps that are already out there in the market. The Tesla Roadster is my electric wet dream. If only I can afford it... I hope more rich people buy it.
